Learn about our latest Community Heroes ahead of tomorrow's game at Carrow Road

NORWICH City will welcome teenage volunteers Katie Malone and Zara Bradley this Saturday as our Community Heroes.

The pair took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme with Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, during which time they each completed 60 hours of planning and volunteering work for two local causes.

Katie, an 18-year-old pupil at Thorpe St Andrew High School, was part of a group that raised over £600 for the Salvation Army from a Christmas Fair.

Meanwhile, Zara, a 17-year-old Wymondham High School student, helped to renovate a local grassroots football club with work on their clubhouse and grounds.

Both girls have since become ambassadors for the NCS programme; Katie spoke about her time on NCS at a recent graduation event, while Zara’s achievements earned her a place on the national NCS leaders programme and a trip to Downing Street to share her experiences.

This summer, Year 11 students once again have the chance to take part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme with Norwich City’s Community Sports Foundation, and follow in the footsteps of over 1,000 young people who have participated in Norfok since 2011.

NCS, a government-backed project, provides young people with the opportunity to take part in residential camps and volunteering projects in their local communities.

Summer participants enjoy back-to-back residential weeks in July/August, which encourage team-building and making new friends before getting the chance to make a difference in their local community with 60 hours of social action work.

Throughout the season the Club is celebrating the good work local people do in their community; whether that’s in the emergency services or armed forces (past and present), as carers or charity champions, or by being super fans or the region's sporting heroes - we’ll be celebrating it.

Ahead of every home match, Norwich City will invite a deserving community-minded individual to be a ‘Community Hero’ and place the matchball onto a special plinth ready for the referee to collect as he leads the players out of the tunnel for the game.
