Striker's brace helps Canaries leapfrog Hornets

LEWIS Grabban believes Norwich City’s convincing 3-0 win at promotion rivals Watford was the most significant result of their Sky Bet Championship season so far.

The forward continued his impressive run of form with two goals either side of a fine Cameron Jerome strike as City brushed aside the Hornets in a rampant second half.

Victory at Vicarage Road lifted the Canaries to within four points of the automatic promotion positions, and after the game Grabban told Norwich City TV: “It’s the most important result, definitely.

“It keeps us within touching distance of the top, so it’s a positive. I don’t really know what other teams are thinking, but I suppose people will look at us as one of the main contenders.

“Automatic [promotion] is within touching distance of the top eight, and hopefully we won’t disappoint anyone when it comes to the end of the season. It’s up to the team who really wants it most to try and grab it.

“Hopefully we’ll be one of those two.”

With the match finely poised at 0-0 shortly after the hour-mark, the visitors were presented with the perfect opportunity to break the deadlock when Wes Hoolahan was illegally felled in the box.

Grabban stepped up to confidently stroke home the spot-kick and respond in perfect fashion to a pair of penalty misses earlier in the campaign, and the 27-year-old commented: “It happens; all players miss penalties so it’s just about taking the next one.

“You have to keep trying. I’m just happy to be playing again, to get on the score-sheet and to keep getting wins for the team.

“It’s a happy time at the moment.”
