Canaries take on Bundesliga outfit on Saturday

CITY will wrap up their week’s training camp in Germany with Saturday’s friendly against FC Augsburg in Prien am Chiemsee (2pm).

The Canaries have been put through their paces by manager Alex Neil throughout their stay in Grassau as they gear up for their return to the Premier League.

After landing in Salzburg last Saturday afternoon, City prepared for Monday’s friendly against Maccabi Haifa in Kufstein, where they fell to their first defeat this pre-season following Alon Turgeman’s goal.

Saturday’s opponents FC Augsburg are expected to provide another tough challenge.

They were the Bundesliga’s surprise package last season, qualifying for the Europa League by finishing fifth, above the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.

Notable players for the Fuggerstadter include former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger, experienced midfielder Halil Altintop and ex-Sunderland frontman Ji Dong-Won.

Earlier this week they completed the free transfer signing of Germany international Piotr Trochowski, but Chelsea have been heavily-linked with a move for their promising Ghanaian full-back Abdul Rahman Baba.

City will fly back to the UK after the match on Saturday night ahead of Tuesday’s Carrow Road friendly against West Ham United.

Captain Russell Martin said: “This week has been perfect in terms of preparation ahead of the start of the season. The facilities have been fantastic and the lads have worked extremely hard.

“Saturday will be another step up in terms of the class of the opposition, and we’re in for another tough workout. We want to get results at this stage but the most important thing is being ready for the Crystal Palace game on August 8."
