City striker admits instinct took over for memorable Forest goalCAMERON Jerome claims nature took over a week on from his sublime finish helping Norwich City to a crucial Sky Bet Championship win over Nottingham Forest.
The City striker met a low Martin Olsson delivery with his back to goal early in the second half, before nonchalantly twisting to back-heel into the far corner with one fluid movement ahead of a blase celebration.
That effort doubled the home side's advantage, and Jerome told canaries.co.uk: "The cross was slightly behind me so I had to improvise knowing where the goal was.
"I was half-looking over my shoulder because it came off the post, then I saw it creep in. It’s one of those things, sometimes your body takes you away and you go crazy and sometimes you just stand and relax.
"It was good to get a goal but I didn’t realise how good it was until I saw it again. I don’t know why I did it. It was just natural; the finish was just an instinctive improvisation, and the celebration was too.
"That set us on our way, which was the most important thing as it enabled us to kick on and put the game to bed."
Victory saw the Canaries close the gap on the automatic promotion positions to just two points, with seven games of the regular season still to play.
The 28-year-old is adamant his side has what it takes to overhaul that deficit, commenting: "We’ve got to approach it in a composed manner because we’re in the mix now.
"It’s the crunch-time of the campaign and we’ve got to remain confident without getting complacement. That's the one thing we can't do, because you've got to beat what's in front of you.
"Even if we win or lose a game, there will still be twists and turns so we've just got to focus on ourselves. If we get enough wins then we'll be promoted, it's as simple as that.
"We’ve got to be ruthless in terms of our play and make sure we keep things solid. If we do that and work hard for each other I’m pretty confident we'll end up in the top two."
