CITY v DERBY: THE LAST MEETING

10 March 2015

Dramatic Jackson treble keeps Canaries on track for the Premier League

Ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship promotion showdown between City and Derby, we look back at the last time the two sides met at Carrow Road.

NORWICH CITY 3-2 DERBY COUNTY
Saturday April 25, 2011

Simeon Jackson completed a hat-trick deep into added time as the Canaries clinched a crucial victory over Derby four years ago.

The Canadian forward opened the scoring just before the interval, before Steve Davies brought Derby level early in the second half.

Jackson restored City’s lead on the hour-mark with an exquisite finish, but County hit back once more barely moments later courtesy of a fine Alberto Bueno strike.

The hosts seemed set to be held to a single point as time ticked down, with news filtering through that promotion rivals Cardiff City had edged to a 1-0 success at Preston North End.

With the final whistle having gone at Deepdale, and with the score poised at 2-2 at Carrow Road, the Canaries looked certain to be leapfrogged by Dave Jones’ side with just two games of the season remaining.

However, a raucous home crowd roared their team forward, and they earned a late corner when Jackson’s shot was deflected wide off Jeff Hendrick.

The subsequent set-piece found its way through to Russell Martin, who fired at goal; the ball striking Jackson on the line before crossing to secure a stunning win.

Victory over Derby ensured Paul Lambert’s men went into the penultimate weekend above Cardiff in the table, with the Welsh outfit never truly recovering from the blow delivered by Jackson.

Instead it would be City who went on to wrap up promotion to the Premier League just seven days later, with Jackson continuing an incredible run of form by notching the only goal in a famous 1-0 win at Portsmouth.
