Nick Hall to present Derby County matchballNORWICH City will welcome charity champion Nick Hall as their Community Hero for this Saturday's match with Derby County at Carrow Road.
Nick has been nominated by the Norwich and Central Norfolk Cruse Bereavement Centre who will also be holding a ground collection outside on the day of the game to raise funds for their charity.
Cruse Bereavement Care Norwich is an independent organisation of committed people who understand the needs associated with bereavement, and forms part of a national charity which supports the bereaved.
The organisation is often the only place people have to turn to when someone has died, with Norwich Cruse being entirely self-funded with the help of donations, local fundraising efforts and small grants from individual funds.
Nick first came to Cruse as a client after his first wife died in 2005. He had felt that he was: "Just an ordinary bloke. I didn’t think this sort of thing was for me - but it was” and for some months he struggled on his own to deal with his grief.
A friend suggested that he contact Cruse and the subsequent help that he received enabled him to get his life back on track, and it was this experience that led him to want to help others in the same predicament.
He originally started by helping with the Cruse social group for older people who meet every Monday; designed for those who have come to terms with their bereavement and are moving on with their lives.
However, it wasn't long before his talents were being used to help with the vital task of fundraising for Cruse.
As a larger than life character with many talents, Nick is tireless in his efforts to persuade people to help Cruse and in innovative in the approach he makes to contribute enormously to the charity.
People like Nick supporting in the background are what keeps organisations like Cruse going, and his colleagues at the charity said: "We couldn't do it without him - he really is our community hero!"
