Five wins out of six for Jerry Gill's youngsters

NORWICH City Under-18s won away to Arsenal for the second time in a fortnight as they began their play-off campaign in style on Saturday.

A young Canaries outfit produced another fine performance to inflict a 2-1 defeat on the Gunners, having ran out 3-1 winners at Shenley Training Centre just two weeks previously.

George Couzens gave the visitors a 26th minute lead with a good finish, and they maintained that advantage until 12 minutes from time when Arsenal's Aaron Eyoma levelled.

However, City responded almost immediately with substitute Glenn Middleton striking less than 60 seconds later to secure all three points for Jerry Gill’s side.

It completed a memorable day for the youngster, having already scored a hat-trick against Tottenham Under-16s earlier that morning before being included in the Under-18s matchday squad.

Gill was understandably delighted at Middleton's impact as well as the overall application of his team, and told “It was a really good day for him, especially being an Under-15s player.

"They looked at us from the previous game and pressed a lot more, so it was a tough challenge. We played the better in the first half to create a few chances, and probably should have scored two or three.

"It's nice to have won twice at their place, and to get five wins out of six is really pleasing."

Norwich’s next match in the Barclays Under-18s Premier League play-offs sees them face Bolton Wanderers at Colney Training Centre this weekend.
