REPORT: TOTTENHAM 0-2 U21s

16 March 2015

Kyle McFadden and Michee Efete on target

RYAN Bennett completed 90 minutes as Norwich City's Development Squad secured a fine 2-0 victory over Tottenham at Hotspur Way on Monday afternoon.

The defender was named in Paul Wilkinson's starting line-up as he continued his rehabilitation from a recent hamstring injury, and helped his side keep a clean sheet against a strong Lilywhites outfit.

Goals in either half from defenders Kyle McFadden and Michee Efete proved enough to see City home with ease, with both converting Ray Grant corners from close-range.

It took just five minutes for the visitors to go in front, with McFadden reacting quickest during a goalmouth scramble to divert home following Grant's set-piece.

An opening period of few chances nearly burst into life shortly before the half-hour mark, but Will Miller's deflected effort was saved well by Canaries goalkeeper Remi Matthews after the midfielder had darted inside expertly.

City quickly responded with an attack of their own, and moments later Conor McGrandles tested Spurs' stopper Luke McGee.

Neither side was able to stamp a genuine sense of authority on a physical contest as half-time loomed, with Cristian Ceballos' injury-time drive being saved by Matthews.

Spurs began the second half on the front foot, but were once again thwarted by Matthews as he kept out a firmly-hit volley from substitute Christopher Paul.

Within five minutes Wilkinson's side threatened to extend their lead, only for Sam Kelly to fire narrowly wide of the near-post having gone through one-on-one with McGee.

However, City did double their advantage with 12 minutes remaining; their second goal of the afternoon coming via the dead-ball prowess of Grant once more.

The cultured midfielder sent over a precise delivery which was nodded back across the area for Efete to tap into the net from deep inside the box.

Connor Ogilvie looked to reduced the defecit for the hosts in the closing stages, but his header was narrowly off target as the Canaries professionally saw the game out.
