Defender determined to seize opportunity

SEBASTIEN Bassong is already relishing the challenge of being back in the Premier League after helping guide Norwich City to promotion at Wembley Stadium earlier this week.

The Canaries achieved an immediate return to the top-flight via a 2-0 success over Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final on Monday, thanks to early goals from Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond.

Bassong has been a near ever-present in a resolute City defence since the arrival of manager Alex Neil in January, and said: "We all knew being in the Championship was going to be a tough season, because it’s different to the Premier League.

"I think we deserve to be back there, and we’re not going to take it for granted. We’re going to have to work even harder to stay there.

"We’ll have a rest for a month then get back to work."

Having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Watford, the 28-year-old can now boast the rare double of two promotions from the same division in a single season.

Bassong emphasised his pride at making a successful second coming at Carrow Road, commenting: "It's been a long season with lots of ups and downs.

"Things can change quickly in football, and it's been a good turnaround for me. I got double promotions which I’m happy about because I don’t think it’s been done by anyone lately.

"I didn’t expect this at the start of the season, so it’s good."
