Gunners next to visit Colney Training Centre

GRAEME Murty wants his Norwich City Under-18s side to 'show character' when they host Arsenal on Saturday (11am).

City's youngsters endured a difficult outing last weekend, with a 'ruthless' Chelsea consigning them to a 7-0 Barclays Under-18s Premier League defeat.

Murty believes the debrief to that game has been successful, and told "They were up against a very strong team, who were definitely the best I've seen at this level.

"We told the boys that sometimes you've got to find a way to stay in games, so they'll learn from that. As a coaching staff it enabled us to understand more about the players, and see their mentality.

"In a first team environment you're expected to keep going in testing situations, so it's an important part of their development. Following on from the match, it's been an effective week of discussion and training.

"Now it's time for the talking to stop, and for them to put that into action. We know what they're capable of, so it's about showing character every day to produce in a match situation."

The Gunners are likely to provide a stern challenge for the young Canaries, having beaten German heavyweights Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League last month.

Murty is relishing the contest however, and explained: "It's the ideal match for us to be playing a team like Arsenal.

"There's an immediate chance to see what the players have taken from Chelsea. You always want to test yourselves against the best, and they're a very well-established side.

"It's an opportunity to move on from last week and show our abilities so we're looking forward to it."
