U18s PREVIEW: CHELSEA

29 October 2015

Canaries prepare to face league leaders

NORWICH City Under-18s visit Chelsea on Saturday (12pm), with manager Graeme Murty looking for his side to pick up where they left off in their most recent match.

A number of players eligible at Under-16 level were involved in last weekend's 2-2 draw against Southampton, as the youngsters impressed with an assured performance.

Murty wants that level to be maintained against Joe Edwards' side, and told canaries.co.uk: "The players' application throughout the week has been fantastic.

"I'm really enjoying working with them. We're seeing guys step up to train with the first team or play for the Under-21s, which is great.

"It provides a motivation tool for those who aren't doing so yet. That can be a real positive, and it's important they use it in that way."

The Blues currently top the Barclays Under-18s Premier League, having taken 26 points from their opening 11 games.

They inflicted a 4-1 defeat on the Canaries back in August, with Murty keen to see what his side have learned from that meeting.

"You have to measure yourself against the best to see where you are with your progress," the 40-year-old coach explained.

"The players are looking forward to it, as are the coaching staff. Chelsea are the big-hitters in the league and the squad want to measure themselves against that kind of quality.

"We'll see how far they have come on their journey, and how far they still have to go. It will provide us with invaluable feedback, so it's a good test."
