Murty set for Royals reunion
A number of City's youngsters represented the Under-21s against Tottenham at Carrow Road on Thursday evening, including Louis McIntosh and Todd Cantwell.
Their involvement in the televised clash presents an opportunity for others to step into the breach this weekend, as Murty explained to canaries.co.uk: "My team was already selected before the Under-21s game.
"As coaches we always work closely together across the age groups to discuss the needs of the players. I'll look at who is set to be involved ahead of the match and make sure they're ready to go.
"It was a great experience for the younger players involved against Tottenham. You can see them growing their knowledge to go along with their technical ability.
"We know they have certain attributes in abundance, and the more they play the more they'll be able to demonstrate that."
City's visit to Reading represents something of a homecoming for Murty, who served the Royals as a player from 1998 to 2009.
The 40-year-old is relishing his return, and added: "I always enjoy going back there; you can't play for a club for eleven years and not have special feelings.
"Once the game starts though I'll be in charge of a team trying to get a win. I'm looking for a response from last weekend, and for us to show more responsibility in danger-zones.
"The players need to put the things I see them do every day into practice. At the minute they're not quite at the level we know they're capable of in terms of performances.
