'We need to keep going', says City defender

SEBASTIEN Bassong wants Norwich City to maintain their early Barclays Premier League standards when they visit West Ham United on Saturday (3pm).

The Canaries have collected eight points from their opening six matches, backing up a 3-1 win over Bournemouth with a deserved draw away to Liverpool last weekend.

Slaven Bilic's Hammers have also impressed during the opening weeks of the campaign, registering notable wins at Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City to lie in third place.

The defender is expecting a tough game when City make their last ever league trip to The Boleyn Ground, and told the media at Colney Training Centre on Friday morning: "West Ham have a strong team and made good additions in the summer.

"It will be a different test for us, but it's about what we do. We've had a good start which is always important as it means we've got points early on.

"We're in a good position at the moment. As long as we keep playing how we have been then we should be fine."

Bassong has been an ever-present so far this term, most recently helping his side to their first clean sheet of the season in the Capital One Cup Third Round success against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening.

The Cameroon international enjoys being a constant figure in Alex Neil's selection, as he explained: "Playing is the best thing for a footballer so when I'm needed I'll always be available.

"Everyone in the squad plays their part because we've got a strong and competitive group. I'm enjoying it, and am really looking forward to the future.

"Myself and Russell [Martin] have created a strong partnership. We complement each other on the pitch and communicate well off it too.

"He's a warrior and a good guy who leads the team well as captain."
