City youngsters prepare to host Cottagers

"A few of the boys have had a taste of it, which is brilliant for us as coaches as we can get feedback on their progress from the first team. It also shows the players the pathway through, which is everything this Academy is about."

"Joe Crowe and Louis Ramsay have both been in Dmitri Halajko's Under-21s squads quite regularly this season. Meanwhile, Louis McIntosh recently trained with the first team when they needed a player for a session.

"We'll be very similar in our make-up on Saturday as the people who came in did well. It's good to have a fully-fit squad to choose from, but moving players up to older age-groups is always going to be a focus for us.

"It's good to see the players like that when they don't get a result as it means they're going to be even more determined next time. Our job is to harness that energy to inform their learning during the week.

The Academy coach praised the response of his side to recent challenges, and added: "They were disappointed on Monday, which I was actually quite pleased about.

"As a team, they need to keep doing what they are to hit those targets while being more ruthless in the final third."

"The key performance indicators have been hit in recent games, so we've tried to reinforce those good points. We want to keep those, but enhance the work the players are doing.

"We've also pointed out to the lads where most of the goals are scored, and finding our ways into those areas. It's about getting into positions where we can take good shots rather than speculative ones.
