ON THIS DAY: APRIL 21

Significant results on April 21

CITY earned East Anglian derby bragging rights in the most emphatic fashion on this day in 2011.

Chasing a victory over fierce rivals Ipswich Town to help their promotion push in the Championship, Paul Lambert's Canaries stormed to a famous 5-1 triumph at Portman Road.

Andrew Surman kicked off the scoring after 13 minutes before Town defender Gareth McAuley turned the ball into his own net from a corner.

Simeon Jackson put the contest to bed by poking home Grant Holt's cross in the second half, but there was still time for City to further compound their hosts' misery.

Jimmy Bullard's long-range strike for Ipswich paled into insignificance as Russell Martin and then Dani Pacheco found the net, lifting Lambert's side back up to second in the table with three matches left.

On April 21 2002, City booked their spot in the Division One play-offs with a 2-0 win over Stockport County at Carrow Road.

Nigel Worthington's Canaries set up a semi-final tie with Wolves thanks to goals from Phil Mulryne and Malky Mackay after the visitors had seen goalkeeper Andy Dibble dismissed after just 42 seconds.

In total, Norwich have played 14 matches on April 21 over the course of their history, winning six times, losing six times and drawing twice.
