Significant results on April 28

CITY took command of their Division One play-off semi-final against Wolves by winning 3-1 at Carrow Road on April 28, 2002.

With both sides eager to gain a first leg advantage, Dean Sturridge put Wolves on the front foot with his 21st strike of the season to give the visitors the half-time lead.

Nigel Worthington's Canaries came charging out of the blocks after the break, however, and turned the balance of the tie in their favour thanks to goals from Mark Rivers and Paul McVeigh.

Malky Mackay's stoppage time header capped off the comeback, leaving Wolves with it all to do when the two sides locked horns for the second leg at Molineux.

On this day a year earlier, Mackay had popped up with another timely goal - this one securing City's Division One status.

The Scot nodded home Phil Mulryne's corner in the 17th minute against Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road, earning three crucial points in front of the biggest home crowd of that season.

In total, Norwich City have played 13 matches on April 28, winning three, drawing three and losing seven.
