Boss reflects on thumping EFL Cup victory

ALEX Neil says his players rose to the challenge after a number shone in Tuesday's 6-1 EFL Cup rout of Coventry City.

Neil made 11 changes from the East Anglian derby just two days earlier, and the incoming players stepped up to the challenge to book City's spot in the third round of the competition in emphatic fashion.

Sergi Canos fired a brace on his first start for the Club, with Jacob Murphy and youngster Ben Godfrey also among the scorers at Carrow Road.

Neil told Norwich City TV: "I said to them before the game, all you can ask for as a player is an opportunity to go and play. It was up to them to go and show that you should be involved in the first team.

"To be fair, they all did that. It becomes doubly-difficult now to pick a team, but we know the talent we've got. A lot of these boys have done extremely well.

"I'm not scared to change the team and give the younger boys an opportunity. Josh, Jacob and Sergi have all played for the first team this season, and they've all contributed."

Reflecting more on the contest, Neil said: "Coventry have a system which they use which is hard to play against, but I thought our players showed their quality and they deserved their win.

"I'm really pleased. We changed the full team, so to perform as well as we did speaks volumes of the boys we've got. I was over the moon with them, I thought they did great."
