ALEX Neil praised his players for giving it everything even though they eventually lost 1-0 to title-chasing Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Canaries suffered late heartbreak as substitute Leonardo Ulloa scored the winning goal for the home side with only a minute of normal time left on the clock.

Reflecting after a dramatic finish to a tense contest that had ramifications at both ends of the table, Neil focused on his team's performance.

"To be fair the players gave it their all. I don't think anybody could have any criticism of the players today," he told Norwich City TV.

"The shape was excellent and we limited them to very little. We kept their best players really quiet throughout the match.

"They worked their absolute socks off and we created the best chances in the game.

"When you take that into account, nine times of ten you would walk away with the three points, but we didn't stop a cross coming into our box at the end."

Neil believes the game as a whole was indicative of a season that has seen City often go unrewarded in matches where they have done more than just compete.

He explained: "I think to be honest that game probably sums us up this season.

"The best chances fell to us, we had the best opportunities to score - but we didn't.

"Then, when you need to make a crucial decision as we had been doing, you fall asleep for a second and they have one move when the ball ends up in the back of your net."

City's boss believes they will be fine, however, if they match the standards reached against Leicester - starting with the midweek visit of Chelsea.

"I'm not going to dwell on it too much because we've got a game on Tuesday," Neil added.

"If the lads continue to put that kind of effort in and fight like that, with the standout performances that we had today, then we should be in good shape.

"A win in our next game would change things again."
