REPORT: CITY 0-3 SPURSCITY never recovered from conceding after just 95 seconds as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Carrow Road.
Dele Alli put the Canaries on the back foot when he scored from close range after jumping on a Declan Rudd parry.
Harry Kane's penalty on the half hour mark put Mauricio Pochettino's title-chasers firmly in control, and even though the Canaries fought hard after the break, the visitors were always in control.
Kane's second and Spurs' third in the final minute of the match ended a tough night for City, who have now lost five games on the trot in all competitions.
Alex Neil named Timm Klose in his starting eleven for the Swiss international's debut, one of five changes from the 5-4 defeat to Liverpool ten days ago.
Returning to the team were Martin Olsson, Youssouf Mulumbu, Alex Tettey and Matt Jarvis. Robbie Brady and Patrick Bamford were each missing from the squad of 18.
Kevin Wimmer started his first league match for Tottenham in the absence of the injured Jan Vertonghen. Ex-City loanee Kane led their attack.
After just two minutes, they took the lead - City didn't clear Christian Eriksen's corner, and after the Dane saw a shot parried by Rudd, Alli beat Sebastien Bassong to tap in the rebound.
It was an early blow for the Canaries against a team in top form heading into the match, and they could have fallen further behind when Toby Alderweireld nodded Eriksen's corner just wide.
Hugo Lloris made his first save on 14 minutes from Dieumerci Mbokani, a comfortable one after Mbokani had received the ball from a marauding Alex Tettey, City's captain for the night.
Spurs were on top, however, and their hard-working forward Heung-Min Son saw a deft flick edge the wrong side of Rudd's post when Kane beat Ivo Pinto for pace.
Then, on the half hour mark, Tottenham were given the chance to double their lead was Bassong was adjudged to have brought down Alli in the box.
It came from the rebound after Rudd had kept out Kane with an excellent low save, but the England striker got the better of City's goalkeeper to convert from 12 yards.
Kane then struck the post from a narrow angle as the Canaries struggled to get any foothold in the contest, and Alli missed another chance when he nodded wide unmarked in the box from Danny Rose's cross.
With half-time approaching, Steven Naismith chased a long pass and was bundled over in the area by Wimmer, but the Canaries' half was summed up when no penalty was awarded despite having a strong case.
HALF-TIME: Norwich City 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur
City battled to get going in the early stages of the second half and they went close when Naismith flicked Jarvis' cross narrowly wide of Lloris' post.
Bassong then had the ball in the net and the crowd on their feet - but the defender was flagged offside after he stepped beyond the line of Spurs' defence from Naismith's flick.
Neil's team were playing better but Spurs still maintained a level of control, and City's boss made a change by introducing Cameron Jerome for Jarvis.
Vadis Odjidja then came on for Naismith, but time was running out for the Canaries as they faced a fourth Premier League defeat on the spin.
Kane nearly added a third eight minutes from time when some slack City defending allowed him to race clean through, but his effort came back off the inside of the post.
In the final minute of the game however, Kane got his second was Eriksen robbed Martin Olsson, and the forward finished confidently to complete a comprehensive with for the north Londoners.
