City come out on top in extended friendly

ALEX Neil was satisfied with his players' efforts as a number clocked valuable pre-season mileage in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Peterborough United.

The match was played over 120 minutes, with two separate XIs playing 60 minutes each at the ABAX Stadium.

Josh and Jacob Murphy netted for the Canaries, along with Cameron Jerome, and speaking after the final whistle Neil said he was pleased with what his squad got out of the friendly.

"Getting two teams 60 minutes each is good, and it's pleasing that we came through it with no injuries. That's one of the most important things," he told reporters.

"It was a good day all round really. We played well at times, and there are things that we can still brush up on before the start of the season.

"A lot of the boys, Alex Tettey and Louis Thompson in particular in the second half, were fantastic, and there were a lot of young players playing in that game there and I thought they acquitted themselves really well."

Neil revealed post-match that winger Matt Jarvis is likely to be out for 'two to three' months after a knee ligament operation.

Commenting after the game on the fitness of Russell Martin and Jonny Howson ahead of the training camp in Austria, Neil added: "Russell's got a spasm in his back. It shouldn't take too long, he's improving every day.

"He's coming to Austria, and we're hoping he'll be available for Wednesday. Jonny Howson's got tonsilitis and we're hoping he's going to recover as quickly as possible."
