Goalkeeper makes first City appearance versus Sky Blues

GOALKEEPER Michael McGovern says a 3-0 pre-season win over Coventry City at Carrow Road on Tuesday night marked the ideal start to his Norwich City career.

Having completed a move to the Club last week, the Northern Ireland international was handed his first start by Alex Neil for the Canaries' penultimate warm-up game ahead of the 2016-17 season.

"It was a big game for me, being my first one here," McGovern told reporters after the match, having produced an assured performance to shut out a youthful Coventry side.

"I enjoyed it and I'm happy to get a clean sheet. Hopefully there's more to come.

"The competition here is very high, which I understand. The two other goalkeepers here, Dec [Rudd] and John [Ruddy] are excellent, so it's a great challenge for me.

"I'll do my best to give the manager food for though, and whenever I'm not playing I'll help whoever is."
