Canaries recruit former Barcelona youngster

CITY are delighted to confirm the arrival of talented young attacking midfielder Sergi Canos from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

Canos, who made his Reds debut in their final Premier League match of last season, moves to Carrow Road on a four-year deal with an option for another year.

The 19-year-old, who rejected the offer of a new contract at Anfield, spent the majority of the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Brentford, making 39 appearances and winning the club’s goal of the season award for his strike in their 2-1 win at Reading.

After signing his Canaries deal, Canos told Norwich City TV: "From the beginning, Norwich showed very good interest and showed that they believe in me.

"I’m very excited to be here. Carrow Road impressed me, I’ve seen videos of it and it looks an amazing atmosphere and I can’t wait to play there."

Canos, a Spain youth international, joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy from his local team Nules, spending three years with the Catalan giants before moving to Merseyside as a 16-year-old in 2013.

After starring for the Club’s Under-18s and Development sides, Canos joined the Bees on loan last August and helped them to a 9th-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

City manager Alex Neil added: "Sergi has a good background having been at Barcelona before moving to Liverpool at a young age.

"At Brentford last year he did really well. With Nathan Redmond leaving we wanted to replace him with someone exciting; someone who can dribble, can score goals and can provide assists.

"Hopefully Sergi can show everybody how good he can be."

The transfer is subject to final approval from the relevant football authorities.
