REPORT: CITY 3-0 COVENTRY

26 July 2016

Canaries ease past League One opponents at Carrow Road

GOALS from Wes Hoolahan, Josh Murphy and Jacob Murphy saw the Canaries defeat Coventry City 3-0 in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

Hoolahan's sublime drive inside the first ten minutes put Norwich in the driving seat, with Murphy's cool second half finish coming just two minutes after his introduction as a substitute.

Jacob Murphy finished fellow ex-Coventry youngster James Maddison's excellent pass near the end to secure City's fourth win since returning from the summer break.

Michael McGovern was in goal for his debut between the sticks, with Martin Olsson, Hoolahan and Kyle Lafferty making their first starts of pre-season after an extended break.

Sergi Canos also started for his Carrow Road bow in front of 7,602 supporters, while Coventry fielded a young team as Tony Mowbray switched things around for the Sky Bet League One outfit.

Hoolahan led the Canaries out and it was he who got the Canaries rolling in stylish fashion after just nine minutes, maneuvering beyond a challenge before aiming a shot into the top corner left-footed from 20 yards.

Coventry carried a threat on the counter-attack but had goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook to thank after he kept out Olsson, Lafferty and Canos. Vladimir Gadhev hit the bar with a free-kick for the visitors in their closest effort of the opening 45.

Alex Neil made four changes at the break, one of which saw Maddison come on against the boyhood club who he joined City from in January.

More substitutions followed and it was the introduction of the Murphy twins that led to City's second goal on 66 minutes; former Coventry loanee Jacob played a reverse pass to his brother, who controlled well and picked his spot beyond Charles-Cook.

City's youngsters were clearly keen to impress in the second half, and ex-Sky Blues pairing Maddison and Jacob Murphy combined for their current team's third four minutes from the end as the former played a delightful ball over the top for Murphy, who poked it home to wrap .
