Godfrey scores twice in routine win

CITY's Under-23s recorded another convincing victory on their pre-season tour of Austria by beating FC Slovacko Under-21s 3-0 in Pinkafeld.

Ben Godfrey's brace and Benny Ashley-Seal's neat finish ensured Dmitri Halajko's side successfully followed up Tuesday's 5-0 thumping of Ferencvaros.

Inside the first ten minutes, Slovacko's goalkeeper was called into action twice in 60 seconds when he turned Ray Grant's drive past the post before tipping Louis Ramsay's volley over the bar.

The Czech side looked to be better defensively organised than the Hungarians Ferencvaros but a drop in concentration allowed Godfrey to open the scoring on 17 minutes.

The midfielder was left free at the back post from Grant's free-kick, and he swept the ball sweetly home on the volley to give City the lead.

Slovacko hit the bar after uncertainty in the Canaries' defence from a corner, but such trouble was generally rare and from a set-piece of their own, City's Joe Crowe saw a header saved.

Six minutes prior to the interval, Ashley-Seal scored his team's second after he was quickest to react to a loose ball in the area, the powerful striker finishing well.

Defender Michee Efete went off injured two minutes into the second half, with Emerson Sambu replacing him - and City didn't start as brightly as they had played in the opening 45.

Slovacko struggled to create opportunities, however, and Godfrey's second goal of the evening wrapped up the friendly victory.

Godfrey, who had switched to central defence on Efete's withdrawal, got up hightest to meet Grant's corner and head home 14 minutes from time.

Substitute Diallang Jaiyesimi and Glenn Middleton both threatened to add a fourth late on, but the Development Squad could be content with their day's work come the final whistle and they will head back to England with the first-team on Saturday.

NORWICH CITY: Oxborough; Ramsay, Efete (Sambu 47), Crowe, Lewis; Godfrey, Grant (c); McIntosh, Eaton-Collins (Jaiyesimi 62), Middleton; Ashley-Seal. Subs not used: Hallett (GK).
