Special event with three-time Player of the Season to be held on Friday, June 24
GRANT Holt says Norwich City’s squad possesses the character required to secure their Barclays Premier League status ahead of a season-defining clutch of matches.
The iconic ex-Canaries striker is in a better position than most to make such a judgement, being able to list the likes of John Ruddy, Russell Martin and Wes Hoolahan among his former teammates.
Holt believes the unity between fans and players could also prove telling, and exclusively told Norwich City TV: "The team will be massively up for the fight.
"I spoke to Wes the other day and they all know what they want to do. They’ve got a good squad, as well as a bunch of lads who have been there before.
"They know how to do it and if they keep doing what they have been then I’ve got no doubt they’ll stay in the division. The fans can make a real difference too, especially in these kinds of games.
"Their support can lift you and get the team firing when things are tough, so they’re a big factor."
Having netted 78 goals while with Norwich between 2009 to 2013, the three-time City Player of the Season is set to return on Friday, June 24 for a special event held in the stadium’s Norfolk Lounge.
"It’s always nice to come back because I was lucky enough to have four fun years here,” the 34-year-old explained during a visit to Carrow Road on Tuesday.
"I’ve got so many special memories; from last ditch goals to getting trophies on the pitch, it was the best time of my career. To come here in League One and get to where we were when I left was fantastic.
"I was fortunate enough to come back here with Huddersfield last season and get a send-off from the fans. This event was talked about for a while but it was a case of finding the right time as football can change quickly.
"I’m looking forward to giving the fans a different side to Grant Holt from the one they’ve seen on the pitch. I’ll be able to give people a different view of what I do, and give them some insight into certain things so it should be a good evening."
