Significant results on March 7

THE Canaries recorded one of their most memorable modern East Anglian derby victories on March 7, 2004.

City were fortunate to go in at half-time all square with their fiercest rivals Ipswich Town, but after the interval they accelerated through the gears to secure a 3-1 win at Carrow Road.

The game was notable for the brace of second half goals scored by defender Malky Mackay, doubling his tally for the season within a nine-minute period.

Darren Huckerby got City's third quickly after Tommy Miller had pulled one back from the penalty spot for Ipswich. City went on to claim the Division One title that season, winning eight of their final nine league matches.

On March 7 last year, Alex Neil's side beat Millwall 4-1 at The Den to maintain momentum in their own promotion push.

Jonny Howson scored twice, with further goals from Gary Hooper and Wes Hoolahan helping the Canaries to an emphatic victory that brought them to within a point of the top two in the Sky Bet Championship.

In total, City have played 12 games on this day, winning four, drawing five and losing three.
