Significant results on May 2

THE DREAM of back-to-back promotions became a reality for Norwich City on May 2, 2011.

Cardiff City's 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough earlier in the day left Paul Lambert's Canaries knowing that victory at Portsmouth would secure them Premier League football for the 2011/12 campaign.

Simeon Jackson's ninth goal in seven matches five minutes into the second half proved to be the winner as they became the first team since Manchester City in 2000 to rise from the third to the top tier in just two seasons.

The achievement sparked euphoric scenes after the final whistle as players and staff celebrated in front of over 3,000 away fans at Fratton Park.

More recently, Alex Neil's City booked a play-off semi-final with fierce rivals Ipswich Town on this day in 2015.

Bradley Johnson scored twice, with Nathan Redmond and Graham Dorrans also notching to see off Fulham 4-2 in the last game of the regular season at Carrow Road.

In total, Norwich City have played seven times on May 2, winning four matches and losing three.
