Northern Ireland, Norway and Scotland contest World Cup qualifiers

THREE Norwich City players saw match action on Friday evening as their respective nations continued their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Michael McGovern and Kyle Lafferty were both chosen to start for Northern Ireland, with the latter among the scorers in a 4-0 home win over Azerbaijan in Group C.

Lafferty got the home side's first ahead of Gareth McAuley doubling the advantage five minutes before half-time.

Conor McLaughlin added a third midway through the second half, with Chris Brunt rounding off the scoring late on in an impressive success for Michael O'Neill's men.

The same group saw Alex Tettey start for Norway, with the Scandinavian outfit going down to a 2-1 defeat in the Czech Republic.

Strikes from Michael Krmencik and Jaromir Zmrhal set the home side on their way, with Joshua King's reply four minutes from time proving to serve only as a consolation for Norway.

Finally, at Wembley, Russ Martin and Steven Naismith were named on the bench for Scotland as they took on rivals England in Group F.

The hosts emerged as victors; headed efforts from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana either side of the break putting them in control.

A further header from Gary Cahill made it 3-0 on the hour-mark, completing a comfortable triumph for The Three Lions.
