Three players in action at the weekend

BOTH James Maddison and Tony Andreu played central roles in victories for their teams at the weekend.

Aberdeen were in action on Friday night, and they got back to winning ways after successive defeats by beating Partick Thistle 2-1 at Firhill.

Maddison was influential from the offset and was involved in the move that led to the Dons' opening goal, Anthony O'Connor finding the net six minutes before half-time.

After Adam Barton nodded Partick level, Maddison then assisted for frontman Jayden Stockley to fire home what proved to be the winning goal.

In the Scottish Championship, Andreu notched his eighth of his Dundee United loan spell as they romped to a 4-1 win over Queen of the South.

Andreu's header from Paul Dixon's free-kick was United's second goal of the afternoon as they earned three points to keep them in touch with Hibernian at the top of the division.

Remi Matthews in a long-term miss for Hamilton with a shoulder injury - in his absence, they drew 0-0 at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

South of the border, Declan Rudd's Charlton Athletic met Harry Toffolo's Scunthorpe United in the first round of the FA Cup, although Toffolo was missing from the Iron's squad.

Rudd was between the sticks for Charlton, who progressed to Round Two with a 3-1 victory, goals coming from Johnnie Jackson and Ademola Lookman (2).
