INTERNATIONAL ROUND UP: TUESDAY

11 October 2016

Four players get minutes for their countries

THE latest round of 2018 World Cup European Qualifying fixtures were completed on Tuesday night, with three matches featuring City players.

Two of those games were in Group C, where Norway bounced back from defeat to Azerbaijan by clinching a 4-1 win over San Marino in Oslo.

An early own goal from Davide Simoncini put the home team in front, before San Marino notched an unexpected equaliser in the 54th minute through Mattia Stefanelli.

Alex Tettey was substituted midway through the second half as the Scandinavians chased the win, which was eventually secured by a flurry of late goals goals from Adama Diomande, Martin Samuelson and Josh King.

Germany are widely expected to take top spot in the group to qualify for the 2018 tournament automatically, and they continued their 100% start by defeating Northern Ireland 2-0.

City's Michael McGovern started in goal for the visitors in Hanover, but strikes from Julian Draxler and Sami Khaderi gave the hosts a lead to protect.

Michael O'Neill's side threatened in occasional bursts, although were unable to find a route back into the contest despite Kyle Lafferty's introduction off the bench in the 76th minute.

Finally, Canaries captain Russell Martin was included in the Scotland XI which went down 3-0 away to Slovakia in Group F.

Robert Mak's double put the hosts in control, before Adam Nemec added a third to complete a disappointing night for the Scots ahead of next month's showdown with England at Wembley.
