ON THIS DAY: OUR GREATEST WIN?

19 October 2016

It's 23 years since THAT Jeremy Goss volley

IT WAS on this day in 1993 that City recorded perhaps their most famous victory with the help of one of their most iconic goals.

Jeremy Goss' stunning volley set Mike Walker's Canaries on their way to a remarkable 2-1 win in the backyard of European giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Cup second round tie.

Mark Bowen's header to double his team's shock lead prompted the memorable line of commentary from John Motson: "This is almost fantasy football!"

Christian Nerlinger pulled a goal back for Bayern before half-time, but City weren't to be denied and they consolidated the win with a 1-1 draw back at Carrow Road two weeks later to progress.

"I can still feel the ball hitting my foot now," Goss had said of his goal at the Olympic Stadium, a headline moment of the Club's history.
