City's unbeaten run ended by MidlandersNORWICH's Under-23s fell to their first defeat in over a month as Wolves came away from Carrow Road with a 1-0 victory thanks to Christian Herc's fine second half effort.
Back-to-back Premier League 2 wins for Dmitri Halajko's charges over Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, plus a cup triumph against Barnet, had injected momentum into their season after a slow start.
Wolves merited the three points on this occasion, however, as City struggled to make an impact in the final third.
After a tight first half an hour that the visitors slightly edged in possession terms but only saw both number nines slice shots off target, the game opened up as it approached the interval.
Wolves began to break in behind City's backline and soon after Ebou Adams made a vital last-ditch block in the penalty box, Sylvain Deslandes should have had them in front.
The left-back - and unlikely venturer into the box - was left completely free but somehow conspired to put his header wide from six yards when it looked simpler to hit the target.
This let-off appeared to spring the Canaries into life and they pushed Wolves back for the first time just before the break, with Jamie Eaton-Collins having a penalty appeal rejected from a corner.
After the break, Halajko's team started with promise but they slipped behind on 51 minutes when Herc rifled a left-footed piledriver into the top corner, Ben Killip having little chance to stop it.
Wolves continued to commit men to attack, with Donovan Wilson chopping a volley over the bar, Deslandes nodding wide again and Niall Ennis drawing a decent stop from Killip.
City's 3-5-2 system wasn't yielding opportunities in the final third, and Wolves should have capitalised up the other end but Will Randall fired over from point-blank range when he should have done better.
The Midlands outfit retained a level of control over the remainder of the contest - though Michee Efete did flash wide for City in the final moments - and Herc's 25-yarder ended up being a match-winning contribution.
