Young Canaries narrowly beaten by Spurs

NORWICH City's Under-18s fell to a defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, thanks largely to a hat-trick from home striker Reo Griffiths.

Griffiths notched two goals inside the opening half an hour at Spurs' Academy base in the Barclays Under-18s Premier League, both of those strikes coming from close-range to put the hosts in control.

City responded sharply to the second however, pulling a goal back within 60 seconds when Bilal Kamal prodded home at the second time of asking having seen his initial shot blocked.

David Wright's youngsters pushed for an equaliser before the break, and were unlucky not to find one when Agust Hlynsson was denied by Tottenham goalkeeper Brandon Austin.

Having survived that scare, Spurs restored their two-goal advantage just after the hour-mark when Griffiths completed his treble inside the box.

Chasing the game once more, the Canaries were given a lifeline on 72 minutes when Hylnsson was fouled in the area, allowing Devonte Aransibia to step up and pull a goal back from the penalty-spot.

The visitors went close in injury-time but were kept out following a goalmouth scramble as Spurs did enough to close out victory, with City's next game seeing them host Stoke City on Thursday.
