Daniel Farke: It was a great team performance

7 August 2017

Daniel Farke believes the Canaries fully deserved their 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Nelson Oliveira’s late strike ensured City started their season on a positive note and Farke was delighted with various aspects of his side’s display.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup match with Swindon Town, Farke said: “We had a really good game so we deserved the result from the beginning. I think it was quite important that all the players were there with a really good performance.

“We had more possession than Fulham. We are the first team in one year who were able to have more possession than Fulham in their stadium. We had more shots on goal, more shots in general so I think we really deserved the result and I was really content.

“It’s not about one or two players with the brilliant offensive move. For sure, it was a great finish from Nelson and it was a brilliant assist from Wes but it was also important that we defended very well, created chances and exhausted the opponent with our possession.

“I’m really content with our squad. You are only happy 100% with a win, that’s for sure, but we were there with many new lads, we had to do without so many lads for us and I think we really deserved at least the draw and so for that, I’m really content with the performance.”

Farke also revealed he has spoken to Oliveira regarding the striker’s celebration after his late equaliser, saying it deflected attention away from the overall team performance.

“I can understand passion from a player,” he added. “I know how a player feels when he is on the bench at the beginning of the game.

“I was really content with his performance and I was really content with his goal but I was not content with this action, that’s for sure.

“It’s quite normal that a player is full of passion, that’s no problem for me. But it’s not good for the group because we are sitting here talking about Nelson Oliveira’s action and my reaction but we should be talking about a brilliant Wes Hoolahan assist.

“We should talk about great defending against Fulham’s counter actions, we should speak about our very good physical condition and very good togetherness. To come back after 0-1 in Fulham was a really good result but we spoke about one player. It’s always about the group.”
