In Focus: QPR

15 August 2017

Norwich City will hope to bounce back from their first defeat under Daniel Farke on Wednesday evening when they host Queens Park Rangers at Carrow Road.

Ian Holloway’s squad have made a decent start to the 2017-18 Sky Bet Championship season and here’s what Farke and his team can expect from their west London opponents.

Summer signings
After bringing in four new faces in the January transfer window, Holloway has only added three players to his QPR squad so far this summer.

The first of those to make the transition to Loftus Road was Josh Scowen (pictured below), who joined the Club from Barnsley on a three-year-deal in June.

Scowen made 44 appearances for the Tykes last season and will come up against a familiar face in City’s new man Marley Watkins, with whom he played with at Oakwell.

Experienced defender Alex Baptiste was added to the QPR ranks at the beginning of August, reuniting with Holloway after playing under him at Blackpool.

Holloway’s most recent signing of the summer window was Kazenga LuaLua who joined on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

Previous meeting
The sides met on the final day of the 2016-17 Sky Bet Championship season as City carried on their impressive home form with a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Wes Hoolahan kicked off the scoring when he found the bottom corner from the edge of the area before Alex Pritchard (pictured below) volleyed in a powerful second.

Josh Murphy squeezed a low finish in under QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies for a third before Hoolahan added his second and City’s fourth in stoppage time.

Form guide
After a disappointing campaign last season when they finished 18th and just two points above the Championship drop zone, QPR have started this year in a positive manner.

They began their campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over last season’s beaten play-off finalists Reading, thanks to a brace from Conor Washington.

Days later, they made it through to the second round of the Carabao Cup, beating Northampton Town 1-0 at Loftus Road thanks to Yeni Ngbakoto’s first half strike.

And after backing those results up with a draw away at Sheffield Wednesday, it’s been a promising start to the season for Holloway’s men.
