Midfielder Ebou Adams made his professional debut Tuesday night as Shrewsbury Town were narrowly edged out of the Carabao Cup at Nottingham Forest.
Mustapha Carayol struck a first half penalty for the hosts, who extended their lead with quarter of an hour remaining through debutant Jason Cummings.
The Shrews pulled one back soon after courtesy of a Shaun Whalley spot-kick, but Forest did enough to book their place in the second round.
Carlton Morris, who like Adams is on loan at Shrewsbury, wasn't involved in the matchday squad.
Another youngster not involved for his side on Tuesday was Tristan Abrahams, who missed Leyton Orient's 3-1 National League win over Solihull Moors.
Goals from Charlie Lee, David Mooney and George Elokobi gave Orient victory as they picked up their first points of the 2017-18 season.
Elsewhere in the same division, Louis Ramsay played 90 minutes as Woking went down to a 3-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.
First half goals from Andy Cook and Olly Norburn gave the home side control, only for Woking's Charlie Carter to reduce the deficit before the break.
However, Tranmere secured the win on the hour-mark when Jay McEveley notched to complete the scoring.
Following Diallang Jaiyesimi's move to Grimsby, a total of six City youngsters are currently away from the Club on loan deals - with defender Joe Crowe at Northern Irish side Limerick.
