Daniel Farke says Nelson Oliveira will miss Tuesday’s Carabao Cup second round match against Charlton Athletic with a groin injury, but he revealed that Ivo Pinto is set to return to the fold.
It will be City’s fourth match in just nine days but Farke is hoping to select a strong squad for a cup match he wants to take seriously.
Speaking to the media at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Farke said: “Nelson [Oliveira] has no chance for tomorrow. He’s had a few problems with his groin. It probably didn’t help putting him in on the pitch on Saturday but we decided to take the risk. He scored and played very well but he still has a few problems, so he won’t play tomorrow.
“I’m slightly concerned for Millwall. I hope he will be back because he’s in good form but today, I’m not sure whether he’ll return.
“Marley Watkins is a little bit better. He’s not 100% but he’s getting better from day to day. He may feel it [foot problem] tomorrow but I hope he can play.
“Cameron Jerome has a slight problem with his groin but it isn’t as bad as Nelson. He won’t train today but we are having a light session tomorrow so hopefully he’ll be okay for tomorrow.
“There is good news with Ivo Pinto. He got hit in the back against QPR and was in a little bit of pain. He’s improved though and he trained yesterday so I think he can return tomorrow.
Farke also issued some good news on long-term absentee Timm Klose, who could be set to return at the weekend against Millwall.
“Timm Klose trained yesterday with the team. It’s too soon for him tomorrow, but if he can train all week, he may return against Millwall.
“Tom Trybull has improved his condition. He played some U23s minutes so he’s an option for tomorrow. We have to give some players a rest because it’s been busy so he could play.”
