Norwich City Football Club are delighted to welcome Debbie Tooke, Paul Burn and Elliot Groom as our Community Heroes for our Sky Bet Championship game against Millwall on New Year's Day.
The trio are all part of the Aviva Matchday Buddy programme which takes place every match day at Carrow Road.
The Aviva Matchday Buddy programme is designed to assist supporters with disabilities or mobility issues during every home game.
Canaries fan Debbie has led the programme alongside Norwich City’s Disability Liaison Officer Stephen Graham since it started in 2013, while Paul and Elliot are among the eight volunteers who provide support.
Matchday Buddies are available to help those that need assistance to their seats, assist with pre-match and half-time food/beverage orders and handing out ponchos in bad weather.
“Helping someone on match day gives me a purpose," Debbie told canaries.co.uk.
"It has enabled that person to get to the game and also enhances their matchday experience. It is a wonderful initiative to be involved with."
The pick-up points for fans are in the Holiday Inn and Yellows car park, with the Matchday Buddies located outside the ticket office (under the gazebo situated at the disability lift) at every home game. They are available to assist from one hour before kick-off.
If you require support or assistance at any home game or if you would like to join the scheme and become a volunteer, please contact Stephen Graham on 01603 760 760.
Please give a big Carrow Road welcome this afternoon to Debbie, Paul and Elliot as they bring out the matchball ahead of our game against Millwall.
At every Sky Bet Championship home match, Norwich City will invite a deserving community-minded individual(s) to be their ‘Community Hero’ and place the matchball onto a special plinth prior to kick-off.
Whether the individual works in the emergency services or the armed forces, is a carer or charity champion, a super fan or a regional sporting hero, the initiative celebrates their contribution to the local community.
If there is anyone you think deserves special recognition for their community efforts or personal achievements, let us know by contacting us via firstname.lastname@example.org
