Louis Lomas hopes he can build on his recent performances and sustain his spot in Matt Gill’s Under-23s side.
Lomas, 17, made his first start for the Development Squad on Monday night in their 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion; just six days after helping the Under-18s make it through to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
Looking back on the point the U23s picked up against the Seagulls, Lomas said: “We worked hard as a team. It was a tough game against a tough team.
“We battled well and dug in until the end. We didn’t switch off which was key for us.
“We got an early goal in the second half which was vital and we were unlucky not to get the three points.”
“I hope to continue playing for the Under-23s because I feel like I’m doing well at the moment.
Lomas has played the majority of matches for the U18s this season but he think his experiences playing in a higher age-group will benefit him more.
“It’s a huge experience for me,” he added. “The tempo is higher and the competitive edge is more serious.”
On the next round of the FA Youth Cup, Lomas said: “It will be a tough game because they [Derby] beat Manchester United in the last round. But on our day, we can beat anyone.”
