Matt Gill was pleased with the quality his Under-23s showed as they beat Bury 1-0 in the Premier League Cup.
Gill’s youngsters had not won any of their last four matches but they returned to winning ways with a professional performance at Gigg Lane.
“We played some good stuff at times,” said the U23s head coach. “I’m pleased with a clean sheet for the back four and Aston [Oxborough] and all the boys working hard in front of them. I’m also pleased with our attacking play after a disappointing few weeks.
“It’s really nice to come away from home and get a win and hopefully we can push on now and get even better.”
Bury fielded a number of players with plenty of first team experience and Gill was delighted with how his team reacted to the test in-front of them.
“To play against some senior lads who’ve got experience playing in the Football League is great for us. I can’t give them that sort of experience.
“It’s brilliant for them. They would have learned loads tonight. I’m pleased they’ve come through the test and shown some real quality at times.
“We were very resilient at the end as well when stuff was being chucked at them and I’m pleased we stuck together as a team.”
