League leaders prove too strong for Canaries

TWO Swansea City goals inside five first half minutes condemned Norwich City's Under-23s to a 2-0 Premier League 2 loss at Landore.

Connor Roberts and Adam King struck in the latter stages of the opening period to leave the Canaries still without a league win since November.

City, with Richard Money and Matt Gill overseeing the team following Dmitri Halajko's departure, made one change from Wednesday's Premier League Cup win over Everton as Emersson Sambu replaced Glenn Middleton.

The visitors had the game's first chance after seven minutes when Gregor Zabret denied Diallang Jaiyesimi in the box, but quickly up the other end King saw a deflected effort from a corner flash wide.

The Canaries continued to offer a threat with Ebou Adams seeing his own deflected shot narrowly miss the target, though Ben Killip had to be on his toes to keep out Botti Biabi's drive on 22 minutes.

Killip could do nothing about Swansea's 35th-minute opener when Biabi's hold-up play allowed Roberts the opportunity to break into space and fire home from outside the box.

City's task got even harder just four minutes later as King was the beneficiary of a Roberts cross, tapping in at the back post to extend the Swans' lead.

Ten minutes into the second half Jordan Garrick nearly added a third but his diving header found the sidenetting, though City continued to battle on.

Swansea's pressure gradually increased; Killip was called into action twice to keep out Daniel James as they increased their intensity in search for the game-ending goal, with Aaron Lewis also going close from a free-kick.

James then smashed a shot against the post - but it wasn't to matter for the hosts, who consolidated their position at the summit of the division with three points.
