Boss highlighted frontman's efforts on Saturday

ALEX Neil was full of praise for Steven Naismith after his contribution in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Southampton.

Naismith capped an industrious display with the stoppage time leveller that forced an Emirates FA Cup third round replay against the Premier League outfit.

It was the 30-year-old's fifth goal of the season and Neil believes he has thrived in a central position off the main striker.

"I thought he worked extremely hard," Neil told Norwich City TV after the game on Saturday.

"Playing Premier League teams, you can’t just turn out after the ball because their quality is good enough, they can pick you off.

"I thought Steven led by example with his discipline. He worked hard; he did the ugly side of the game extremely well.

"He challenged, he fought, he scrapped, he won battles – I was really pleased for him because in the previous game he deserved a goal and I was happy that he got his goal."
