City's youngsters fall short in Premier League Cup.

NORWICH City's Under-23s lost 4-0 in the Premier League Cup against Portsmouth on Monday night.

The hosts took the lead after 14 minutes when Jez Bedford set up Nicke Kabamba for his first goal in a Portsmouth shirt.

Portsmouth rattled the woodwork after 28 minutes before the young Canaries went straight down the other to see trialist Jem Karacan's shot saved well by Liam O'Brien.

Moments later Ebou Adams was denied by Pompey's stopper who made an impressive save low to his left.

In the 37th minute Jamal Lowe slotted the ball into the Norwich net to put Portsmouth 2-0 up and then added to his tally to make it 3-0 under a minute later.

Dmitri Halajko's side went into the break three goals behind and in need of a rousing comeback if they were to keep themselves second in Group D.

Lowe completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute after beating the City defence and firing past Jake Hallett.

This loss combined with Wolves' 1-1 draw with Everton means that Norwich fell from second to fourth in Group D of the Premier League Cup.
