REPORT: UNDER-18s 1-2 SOUTHAMPTON

21 January 2017

City suffer defeat at Colney

THE CANARIES' Under-18s were defeated 2-1 by Southampton in their Barclays Under-18s Premier League clash at Colney Training Centre.

City made a flying start to the game as Alan Fleming carried the ball straight from kick-off to score before Saints had touched the ball.

The visitors slowly settled into the contest, spurning a few chances with City 'keeper Fergal Hale-Brown denying Will Smallbone.

Soon after the interval they drew level when Jonathan Afolabi volleyed in Harry Hamblin's cross via the post.

18 minutes from the end, Southampton completed the turnaround when Smallbone advanced into the box before slotting beyond Hale-Brown.

City pressed after Saints had Christoph Klarer dismissed but they couldn't find the goal to give them a share of the points.

David Wright's youngsters will now turn their attentions to Tuesday's FA Youth Cup fifth round tie away against Tottenham Hotspur at Stevenage's Lamex Stadium.
