The latest squad news ahead of SaturdayALEX Neil delivered a fresh update on the fitness of Graham Dorrans at Colney Training Centre on Friday.
Dorrans has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury in the Boxing Day defeat at Reading following a bizarre collision with Paul McShane.
Neil told reporters: "The pleasing thing for Graham is that he's been to see a specialist and he doesn't require surgery, which is good.
"Timeline-wise, we're probably talking the best part of two months. That seems to be where we're heading with it, but to be honest it's probably the best case scenario."
Neil remains limited on options in central midfield with Youssouf Mulumbu on international duty and Louis Thompson (pelvis) still out.
On Thompson, City's manager added: "He's not quite ready yet, but he's making better progress. It feels like a long time, and to be honest, based on the injury it is a long time.
"It's taken longer than we'd hoped but he's out on the grass, he's getting himself moving again. I'm hoping it's not going to be too long."
Robbie Brady will miss Saturday's Emirates FA Cup third round tie as he serves the second game of his three-match suspension for his red card against Brentford on New Year's Eve.
Meanwhile, Neil confirmed James Maddison and Harry Toffolo have been with the squad this week.
He ruled Maddison out of contention though, saying: "He's been back in, he trained with the squad today and he trained with the squad on the other couple of days we've been back in as well.
"However, he's not in the squad for tomorrow. He's been up there (at Aberdeen) and I've got a lot of lads here, and they've been working extremely hard."
