James Maddison says he’s delighted with how pre-season has gone after another impressive display in City’s 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening.
“It was another good test for us coming to a good League One opposition,” he said. “Charlton were in our faces and pressing, and it was good to come out victorious again.
“An injury-free pre-season is always important and being in the best shape as you can, and getting fitness and match minutes in your legs for the season. It’s been good and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Maddison has been used by Daniel Farke in a deeper role in pre-season, and it’s one he’s taken to quickly. “I’m relishing it. I’ve never really played there in my senior career – I’ve always been a base No.10. The boss is playing me in the deeper role and it means I can build the game more from deeper. I’m enjoying it and I’m constantly learning. He’s got his own philosophy and I’m taking it on board.”
City’s first-team have only one more pre-season match, a home clash against promoted Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday at Carrow Road.
“Brighton will be a step up in quality, and they’ve strengthened from last season so it’ll be another tough test at Carrow Road and we’re all looking forward to it,” he says. “The season’s so close now, so we’ll go into that with everything we’ve worked on under the new boss and hopefully come out victorious and go into the new season unbeaten.”
