INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP: SUNDAY

26 March 2017

Four City players pull on national colours

FOUR Norwich City players were involved in 2018 World Cup qualifying action on Sunday night.

Club captain Russell Martin started for Scotland as they welcomed Slovenia to Hampden Park in Group F, with ex-Canary Chris Martin's low finish earning them a late 1-0 win.

Defender Martin had an early effort ruled out because of a foul as the hosts controlled the game in the first half but failed to take advantage on the scoreboard.

Steven Naismith was introduced as a 49th-minute substitute in place of the injured Leigh Griffiths though it was Martin who popped up with the game's only goal, moving his team to within a point of their visitors in the standings.

In Group C, two first half goals gave Northern Ireland victory over Norway at Windsor Park.

Jamie Ward and Conor Washington struck before the break as Michael McGovern played 90 minutes and Kyle Lafferty was introduced as a late substitute for Michael O'Neill's team, who sit second behind Germany.
