Three players in midweek action

TONY Andreu scored twice for Dundee United on Wednesday evening, but it wasn't enough to prevent his side from falling to a 3-2 Scottish Championship defeat at St Mirren.

Harry Davis struck early on to put the home side in front, with Andreu levelling just after the half-hour mark only for Stevie Mallan's free-kick to quickly restore St Mirren's lead.

A close-range Lewis Morgan effort extended the advantage with an hour played, before Andreu's second 20 minutes from time gave United hope of salvaging something from the contest.

It wasn't to be however, with The Tangerines now ten points behind leaders Hibernian having each played 27 games.

Dundee United and St Mirren will meet again later this month when they contest the Challenge Cup Final on 25 March.

Back in England, Harry Toffolo's Scunthorpe United brought a welcome end to a barren run of form with a last-gasp Sky Bet League One victory at home to Rochdale on Tuesday night.

The Iron headed into the match winless in nine, and that run looked set to be extended after goals were traded between Dale's Ian Henderson and United's Paddy Madden.

It remained level at 1-1 heading into injury-time; Matt Crooks striking a dramatic winner during a game in which Toffolo completed 90 minutes.

Elsewhere in the same division, goalkeeper Declan Rudd also played the full match as Charlton Athletic drew 1-1 with Bradford City at The Valley.

Both goals came in the first half, Jorge Teixeira's opener for Charlton cancelled out by Bradford's Timothee Dieng scoring with a header.
