City's goalkeeping duo taste defeat

CHARLTON Athleic went down to a 2-1 defeat at Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One on Saturday, their fourth consecutive loss.

Declan Rudd played the full match for the Addicks, who went into the break level after Jordan Botaka's goal cancelled out Michaell Smith's earlier header for Town.

Northampton then struck again in the second period through John-Joe O'Toole to take the spoils, moving above Charlton in the league standings in the process. 

Elsewhere in the division, Harry Toffolo missed out on a place in the matchday squad as Scunthorpe United were beaten 2-0 at home by Fleetwood Town.

Devante Cole opened the scoring before the interval, with former Iron striker netting against in the former club in the final minute to extend Scunthorpe's winless run to seven games.

Fleetwood, who themselves are now 18 games unbeaten, move about United into the second automatic promotion position courtesy of their win.

Over the border, goalkeeper Remi Matthews played the full match as Hamilton Academy were convincingly knocked out of the Scottish Cup at the quarter-final stage by Rangers.

The Ibrox outfit, led by former City youth coach Graeme Murty, cruised to a 6-0 triumph with a Joe Garner hat-trick being added to by further goals from Martyn Waghorn, Jon Toral and Clint Hill.

In the Vanarama National League midfielder Ray Grant played the final six minutes as Dagenham & Redbridge fell to a 1-0 defeat at Gateshead.

Danny Johnson's goal early in the second half gave Gateshead all three points, further denting the Daggers' promotion aspirations. 

Finally, Carlton Morris is moving closer to returning to fitness at Rotherham United having signed a new three-year deal with the Canaries last week.
