Matt Gill urges Under-23s to come out of traps firing

20 November 2017

Matt Gill has called on his Under-23s to come out of the traps firing when they return to the home of AFC Telford United to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

City made a slow start in their last trip to the New Bucks Head two weeks ago but showed character to fight back from three goals down to draw 3-3.

But Head Coach Gill has urged his squad to make a much better start and arrest an unwanted, recurring theme this season.

“We were really chuffed to get something out of the game,” he admitted. “Like I said on the night, we showed lots of determination and belief to fight back.

“Obviously we can’t afford to start the next game like we did against Wolves in that first half. We’ve had a couple of weeks without a game and had an opportunity to do lots of work which has been good for the lads.

“They’ve had a bit of time-off as well so they’re back and really looking forward to this game. Looking ahead to next week as a whole, it’s a good week of football for us.”

Gill also hopes his side can carry on the momentum from their late-show a fortnight ago.

“Ideally we will pick up where we left off,” he added. “We’re looking to start games better than we have this season. I don’t know what it is, but we’ve struggled a little bit.

“Yet, we’ve shown great resilience to come back in a lot of games this year. We need to make sure we come out of the traps a lot better than we have been.”

City’s Under-23s take on Wolves in Premier League 2 Division Two on Monday (7pm) at the New Bucks Head, Telford. You can follow the action minute-by-minute at our Match Centre or on Twitter.
